The weather was strange when I was coming home from work today. Ominous clouds were moving in over the mountains, but the sun was still streaming through in places. I stopped to look out across the river at the giant torii gate on the other side.
It doesn’t look so bad, really. But when I turned up the road towards home, it looked a little different.
You can’t even see the top of the mountain.
Have I mentioned that I was accepted to the JET program? I don’t remember, but if I haven’t, now you know. Brandon and I are pretty excited about it. As we wait to find out where in Tokushima I we’ll be placed, people keep asking if we will move away from Kamiyama, into the apartment that comes with my placement. I look around at the scenery around our apartment and I can only think “Why would I move away from this view?”
I took this one on my way home the other night. I’m loving the fact that it’s not completely dark when I drive home.
Today’s musical venue was in the other side of the big mountain behind us, so I opted to take the mountain road rather than going around through town. Either way takes about the same amount I’d time, but I hadn’t been over the mountain in awhile. It really is a lovely drive. At one point, not quite up to the top, I looked out and realized I was between two layers of clouds. It was a really nice view.
I pass this part of Kamiyama quite often. Today it was foggy and a little rainy and just looked really nice, so I had to stop and take a picture:
We had a typhoon roll through last night and early this morning. It made sleep interesting when the winds kicked up and it dumped a ton of rain on us, but in the grand scheme of things, it was pretty minor. The best part of a typhoon is the tail end and I don’t mean that in a “Good riddance!” kind of way. The cloud formations at the tail end are spectacular and the way the light breaks through the clouds is really amazing. The air is clean and clear. Today was a really beautiful day.
Today was Sports Day for my school also. We’ve been practicing almost non stop for two weeks, so it was really nice to see it all come together. We were a little afraid we were going to get rained out for a good part of the morning. When the skies look like this, your fears are usually justified.
Thankfully the clouds kept themselves under control until after they passed us. The day was lots of fun!
It makes all crafts better.
And what kids doesn’t like it when their name sparkles? These will be the name tags on their Halloween capes.
Bonus for today:
We had some crazy clouds move in as I was leaving work today. Thankfully they waited until the end of the day.
A view coming down one of the mountains in Kamiyama looking into the valley. With clouds, of course.
We have lots of rain in the forecast for the next few days. Today we woke up to clear blue skies, but the clouds rolled in throughout the day and the rain started in the late afternoon. By the time I left work at 6, the sky was looking quite dramatic.
